Module 3: Financial Management, Strategic Decision-Making & Leadership

This module is designed to provide non-economists with essential financial knowledge and business management skills. It introduces fundamental economic principles, key financial terms, and financial statements used in business operations. Special emphasis is placed on accounting, budgeting, and cost analysis, as these are critical daily functions for business success.

Beyond financial literacy, this module also explores strategic management and analysis, forming the foundation for informed decision-making. The final section focuses on leadership and people management, recognizing that human capital is a business’s greatest competitive advantage.

Upon Completion, Participants Will Be Able To:

  • Understand key financial concepts and business terminology.
  • Differentiate between business structures based on their legal framework.
  • Identify financial metrics and accounting principles for business management.
  • Recognize the importance of strategic management in business growth.
  • Analyze both the internal and external business environment.
  • Conduct a SWOT analysis to assess strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats.
  • Distinguish between different business strategies and their applications.
  • Perform competitive analysis and identify their company’s competitive advantage.
  • Understand leadership principles, different leadership styles, and the key traits of effective leaders.
  • Build and manage high-performing teams.
  • Resolve workplace conflicts and foster a collaborative organizational culture.

This module equips participants with practical financial knowledge, strategic business insights, and leadership skills, enabling them to make better business decisions, manage resources effectively, and lead teams with confidence.

Day 1 - Business Finance Essentials (Part 1)

  • Types of business entities (SA, Ltd, LLP, etc.) and their characteristics.
  • Key financial terminology (pre-tax profit, VAT analysis, profit margins).
  • Fundamental financial statements – balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow statement.
  • Revenue and expenses – understanding their impact on business performance.
  • Purpose of accounting and financial tracking.
  • Cash flow management – ensuring financial stability.

Day 2 - Business Finance Essentials (Part 2)

  • Budgeting fundamentals – planning and forecasting financial needs.
  • Costing methods and stages – including Activity-Based Costing (ABC system).
  • Pricing strategies – margin vs. mark-up calculations.
  • Break-even analysis – determining the point of profitability.
  • Productivity analysis – assessing operational efficiency.

Day 3 - Introduction to Strategic Management & Analysis (Part 1)

  • Strategy: Definition & necessity in modern business.
  • Strategic management model – development, implementation, and control.
  • External business environment analysis – micro/macro-environment, PEST analysis, Porter's Five Forces Model.

Day 4 - Introduction to Strategic Management & Analysis (Part 2)

  • Internal business environment analysisResource-Based View (RBV), Value Chain Theory & Benchmarking.
  • SWOT analysis – identifying strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats.
  • Types of business strategies – growth and restructuring strategies.
  • Competitive analysis & identifying competitive advantages.

Day 5 - Leadership & People Management

  • Introduction to leadership & management principles.
  • Leadership theories – different styles and essential leader traits.
  • Team formation, dynamics, and development.
  • Conflict resolution strategies – fostering a productive and collaborative workplace.
  • The Management for HO.RE.CA seminars are available in-person (Athens) or online via live webinars conducted through the Zoom platform. The live webinar format is interactive and instructor-led, requiring active participation on scheduled dates and times.
  • The program consists of five independent modules, tailored for both new and experienced managers or business owners seeking to enhance their skills in managing a modern and competitive bar. Participants have the flexibility to attend modules in any order based on their individual learning goals.
  • Upon successful completion of the full training program, including both theoretical and practical assessments, participants will receive a Certificate of Completion. If the required criteria are not met, the certificate will not be issued. Students have the right to retake the program at no additional cost, in accordance with the academy's retake policy.
